Privacy policy
Policy last updated: November 7, 2026. Sympli5 is designed to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains exactly what the site stores, what it sends anywhere, and how to change your choice.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, no signups, no names or emails required to use any tool.
- The fee calculator and the comparison tool run entirely in your browser. The amounts and quoted rates you enter are never sent to us or to Google.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not show advertising.
Your choice: essential only, or analytics
On your first visit, a bar asks for your choice.
- Essential only: the site works fully. Nothing is sent to Google and no analytics cookies are set.
- Accept analytics: we load Google Analytics, described below, so we can see which pages and tools are useful.
Until you choose, analytics stays off. You can change your choice at any time; switching to essential only stops analytics and deletes its cookies from your browser:
Essential storage (in your browser, not on our servers)
These are kept in your browser's local storage, are never sent to us, and are needed for features you use:
- Your cookie choice (
sympli5-consent), so we don't ask again on every page. - Flash bar dismissal (
sympli5-flash-dismissed), so a dismissed news bar stays dismissed until a newer item is published. - Quotes you enter in the comparison tool (
s5-quote:…, one per currency and provider), so you don't have to retype them. Only stored if you type a rate.
You can clear them at any time in your browser's settings (site data for sympli5.com).
The comparison tool's Pop out button opens a new window whose address contains your current numbers, so it can show the same comparison. That address stays in your browser; our server logs never record the part of an address that holds those numbers.
Analytics (only if you accept)
If you choose "Accept analytics", we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to count visits and see which pages and tools people use. We have set it up to collect as little as possible:
- What is collected: the page you view (its path only; anything after a
?or#in the address is removed before sending), the site you came from (also without query details), approximate location (country or city, derived from your IP address), device, browser, screen size, language, and how you interact with pages (for example scrolls and clicks on outbound links). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. - What is switched off: advertising features, ad personalization and Google signals. Nothing collected here is used for ads.
- Cookies set:
_gaand_ga_<ID>, first-party cookies on sympli5.com that distinguish visits. They expire after up to 2 years, and are deleted if you switch to essential only. - Retention: Google Analytics keeps the event data for the retention period we configure (at most 14 months), then deletes it.
- Where it is processed: Google may process this data outside your country, including in the United States, under its own safeguards.
You can also block Google Analytics on every website with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Server logs
Our own server (hosted with OVHcloud in Canada) records basic request data for security and operations: IP address, time, the page path requested (without anything after a ?), response status and browser type. These logs are kept in small, size-capped rotating files that are overwritten automatically, and are not used to profile visitors or shared with anyone.
Advertising
Sympli5 does not currently show advertising. If we add ads in the future, they will only use advertising cookies with your separate consent, collected through a consent tool that meets Google's requirements, and this policy will be updated first with the specific networks used.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to providers may be affiliate or referral links in the future. If so, they will be identified on this page, and they never change the figures we publish.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above changes with it.
