How to Accept Online Payments in the Caribbean (2026)

Fee data last updated November 6, 2026 Publicly verifiable schedules only

The Caribbean is one of the hardest regions in the world to accept online payments from, not because customers won't pay, but because the global gateways that dominate tutorials simply don't operate here. This guide lists what is actually available, island by island. We don't suggest workarounds like forming overseas companies; we list the gateways you can sign up with.

What's actually available

Stripe is not available for merchants registered in CARICOM countries or most Caribbean territories (other than Puerto Rico via Stripe US). Instead, Caribbean merchants choose between regional fintech aggregators, direct local bank Merchant IDs (MIDs) paired with Cybersource or Powertranz, and island-specific mobile wallets.

PayPal (JM/BB/DO/BZ/GY), Lynk, MMG, Kanoo
Same day$01.5%–2.5% (local wallets) or ~4.4% (PayPal)Domestic QR/mobile buyers or solo freelancers billing abroad

1. The fintech aggregator route (fastest to start, no bank MID required)

Sign up with a Payment Facilitator (PayFac) or regional aggregator that serves your island — WiPay, Fygaro, DimePay, Amber Pay, Tilopay or CXPay. Because they hold a master merchant account, you can usually go live in days without applying for a bank Merchant ID (MID) or paying monthly gateway fees. Expect roughly 3.5–5% per transaction at published rates.

2. The direct bank + gateway route (Cybersource / Powertranz — lower % at volume)

You cannot sign up for Visa Cybersource or Powertranz standalone in Jamaica or the wider Caribbean to settle funds — they are technical gateways, not acquiring banks. To use them, you apply for an e-commerce Merchant ID (MID) at a local acquiring bank (NCB, Scotiabank eCom+, CIBC Caribbean, Republic Bank, RBC EZPay, Butterfield or MCB). The bank underwrites your business (2–6 weeks) and issues your Cybersource or Powertranz credentials. You pay a monthly gateway fee (~US$35–$100/mo) plus a lower per-transaction bank MDR (~2.5%–3.5%).

3. The invoice route (for freelancers)

Solo freelancers in Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Belize and the Dominican Republic commonly bill through PayPal's international invoicing. Fees run higher than card processing (3.5–4.5% all-in with conversion), but there's no setup, no entity, and withdrawal to a local bank is supported in receiving-enabled markets.
